What's new with me
Feb. 22nd, 2009 | 07:32 pm
So, I haven't posted in a while. Thought I'd give an update. I'm in two history classes this semester, Third Reich: Rise, Fall, and Aftermath (Nazi Germany) and African Experience. Due to their subject matter they are both pretty damn depressing. Like most people in my major I'm cynical, African Experience is threatening to turn me into a full-on hermit. I'll survive.
I actually have Spring Break plans this year, a friend and I will be chilling on a sunny Florida beach. Cannot wait to see dad again, it's been too long.

Your rainbow is strongly shaded brown.
What is says about you: You are a deep thinking person. You appreciate the roughness of nature. You feel closer to people when you understand their imperfections.
Find the colors of your rainbow at spacefem.com.

This Morning
Nov. 10th, 2008 | 10:48 am
location: dorm room
mood:
anxious
music: my grade plummeting
Arg, I did horrible on my Modern Ireland test, I know I did. I totally made up the answer for Lard Wars and some-guy-whose-name-eludes-me. I sucked up my essay, I can feel it. :( It was only two pages long. So going to fail this class, and I don't want too, because I love Modern Ireland.
Weight training in Wellness/Fitness, my legs feel great now, will regret this later.
End killjoy rant
Two positives:
Chinese vocab = 100% finished
Lunch with Yen in half hour.
Where are my pants?

Schedule for next semester:
Monday:
*9am-The African Experience (Guthrie)
*1pm-Third Reich: Rise, Fall, Aftermath (Sondhaus)
*2pm-Christianity (Clapper)
Tuesday:
*4pm-Chinese 102 (Lin)
Wednesday:
*9am-The African Experience (Guthrie)
*1pm-Third Reich: Rise, Fall, Aftermath (Sondhaus)
*2pm-Christianity (Clapper)
*5:45pm-Chinese Culture and Society (Lin)
Thursday:
*4pm-Chinese 102 (Lin)
Friday:
*9am-The African Experience (Guthrie)
*1pm-Third Reich: Rise, Fall, Aftermath (Sondhaus)
*2pm-Christianity (Clapper)
I need the history credits, and the only options were Civil War, Third Reich, and African Experience. The last one will fulfill my non-western history requirement, so I have no choice but to take it. Third Reich won out over Civil War because I test better than I write. I'm still going to die though. Third Reich is infamous for making Seniors want to kill themselves, and I've heard REALLY REALLY scary things about Guthrie. :( :( :(

Amused/Irritated
. . .and they had installed metal detectors. Most people would find this somewhat annoying and then move on. Lucky me isn't really supposed to go through metal detectors, but though what-the-heck, I need to deposit my money. So I tried to go through the thing, big mistake--it hurt--, and it goes off because I have keys, change, and a book bag on. Intercom conversation ensues, and I explain the situation. I was told to go through the drive through. Yeah, did I mention I WALKED TO THE BANK. Yes, I was forced to walk through the banks drive though lane. It was so embarrassing. I looked like an idiot, and what the hell am I supposed to do in the winter? Freeze my ass off outside? Does this count as discrimination?

Becace you can't spell Poem without EMO

EMO
This is the first poem that I am turning in to the prof. It bemoans the fact that I have no idea what the hell I'm doing in this class. It also sucks. Makes sense really
Poetry
Poetry is impressionistic painting
Composed of the colors between blue and green
I look at it without seeing it
I read it without hearing it
The words mean nothing to me
There is a gap between them and my inartistic mind
A chasm of insurmountable distance
I am color blind
I watch others greet colorful phrases
And lyrical verses
Like one would a friend
Wasting time with childish fancies
As I stand with my matter-of-fact
And distant texts
Brow furrowed with concentration
Studying works of grave importance
I wonder if I am missing something

Assignment two: complete the simile, be creative
tired as a college student during an 8 am class
hot as the muzzle of an AK47 after a gunfight
waves unfurled like whipped cream on a Earl's cake
after shelling the town it looked as if it had been made out of Swiss cheese
disgusting as messy adult diapers
the child trembled like a rickety old pick-up truck
the airplane rose like a wounder bird
black as the bottom of a hill-jacks feet
he entered the room like a drunken donkey
their lovemaking was like the rubbing together of a pair of dead fish
not as fun as my last entry, but still, I thought I would share.

My lawl-tastic homework for Creative Writing has spawned a new genre of poetry, that of emo shoes. The prompt I chose from the book was: describe a pair of shoes in such a way that the reader will think of death. Do not mention death in the poem.

So, here is how my classes stand half way through the first week:
Modern Ireland: A (Amazing). I will have to work hard, but the prof is great and I love history. The books (all seven of them) look interesting so far.
Wellness/Fitness: C (Could be Better/Worse). Umm. . .I think I might be the only Junior in a class full of Freshman and Sophomores. Plus we have a pedometer project that lasts from now until thanksgiving. I think a can do well on the physical part of the project, but not so well on remembering to wear my pedometer and input the data on time.
Intro to Philosophy: B (Better than Expected). I'm actually kinda really happy about this class. A wide range of ages and majors so I don't feel too weird. Although I am the only history major. :(
Creative Writing: F (Fail). Creative Writing = Poetry. No one told me this. The class is full of English majors, and I will have to write my own poetry. EMO!!!!!!
Chinese: A (Alyson Better Study Her Ass Off). I'll have to work really hard to pass this class. Prof Lin is really nice though, so I think I'll like this class.
As a side note:
admiral_yen I mentioned to Dr Lin that you had inspired me to learn Chinese and she said: "Jennifer is very serious student."

Second day at school. I helped the Freshmen move into Craven's Hall. It seemed like over half the people I helped were on the third floor. Nate carried an insane number of refrigerators (28 I think) to the rooms. Go him, I was dying. Such a wimp, you'd think I hadn't been in the Garden Center all summer with how tired I got.

Dan and Holly are comeing over later for a bad movie marithon. By bad I mean of poor quality, no dirty movies for us.
Also I must apologize to the Admiral Yen, I've just found time to write a letter. Will mail it soon.
Edit 8/19/08: Umm. . .so Yen, how do you feel about Campus mail?

Goings on on Frankfort

Le gasp! Things are actually happening in my town, unfortunately not very good things.
The mer has declared war on a problem that has been menacing Frankfort for decades. . .trash cans? Lord only knows what goes through that man's head-- if anything. Is it 2010 yet? I can wait 'til he's out of office.
In sadder news, a little boy was found in the wal mart. I wasn't working when it happened, but it's been pretty big news. My step-dad is the detective on the case and he's been working pretty hard to find the woman who left the kid. It's been on the news a few times, including on this weird show Nancy Grace. I'd never heard of it before but they've spoken to Jeff twice now. Unfortunately, a lot of the people who call in are idiots who apparently think the Frankfort police share in their idiocy. Today a helpful gentleman suggested they fingerprint the womans shopping cart. . .wtf? Wal mart only has like 200 of them and everyone in the county has probably touched most of them twice.
Oh yes, Roxie (the Demon Jack-Russel Terrier) moves in to her mother's new house tomorrow. O HAPPY DAY!!!
